The Children’s Home is a seven-building campus in the village of Kiryat Yearim (in the Jerusalem Hills) that accommodates close to 100 children from ages eight to fifteen years, boys and girls, divided into two age groups: The Elementary Unit for children aged eight to eleven, and the Junior Unit for those aged 12 to 15 years.
Each year a new group of 15 eight year olds is accepted and remains together as an intact unit for four years. After this period most Young Unit graduates are able to transition to more open frameworks. The remaining children are “reaccepted” into the Junior Unit along with preteens who are new to JHTC.
There is a special education school on campus, and JHTC provides a wide gamut of interventions, e.g., psychotherapy, music, sports, art and animal-assisted therapy. Other treatments, such as equine and dog training are conducted in off-campus facilities.
Every attempt is made to include the families in the children’s treatment and recovery.
